Common Agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria)

 

The colour is deeper if harvested later inagrimonia.jpg autumn, and paler if harvested earlier. in France these are combined with ordinary tea to make an aromatic brew it is a perennial plant and can grow to around 80cm tall, it has narrow, pointed, deeply serrated leaves. Slender spikes of yellow flowers are borne in summer then followed by burr-like seed capsules. The flowers and foliage have a slightly apricot smell, but other species such as A. procera are more fragrant.

Cultivation

Agrimony grows in sun or semi-shade and is very tolerant of dryish, alkaline soil. The seeds need cold weather or stratification to germinate but will grow in a range of soil types.

  • tea can be made from the flowers and leaves
